Parks & Recreation Committee
Meetings are held when there are decisions to be made about new projects and planning is needed for the next season's work.
The Parks & Recreation Committee facilitates the development and maintenance of two parks in the township. The Township park on Lake Ann Road is a developed park with spaces for recreation, gatherings in the summer, sports and walking. It is currently in need of upgrades to the play areas and sporting options. Several proposals have been presented to the board in the last two years, some have been approved, but none implemented due to disagreements over funding and bid requirements.
The new 40 acre Lamb Road Natural Area Park began in 2021 with a crew of volunteers starting the process of trail building and access infrastructure development. It is being developed as a natural area for walking, snowshoeing, skiing, nature education, natural protected habitat and forest restoration. It will have some amenities such as picnic tables, benches, and a small pavilion. Entrance road and parking area are complete, three connected trails have been designed and cleared, trail signs are up, dead oak trees are cleared. Work continues on trail development. Tables, benches and pavilion are ordered for installation this summer. Tree planting of native pollinator and wildlife friendly trees has begun and will continue this spring.
We are in need of more volunteers to assist with trail development and maintenance plans now. We also welcome future programming ideas and organizing initiatives once the basic park infrastructure is in place and public access is completed. We intend to host an open house type event in the spring to introduce the park formally to the community. Committee members have lots of ideas for future enhancements to the parks which will benefit the community.
